Pierre Gasly (P14): 7/10
Unfortunately Toro Rosso didn't seem to have the pace to really challenge for points in Sochi. Of the two drivers, Pierre Gasly initially seemed to be having the better time this weekend after finishing in the top ten in FP2 and FP3, and he only narrowly missed out on progressing to the final round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Although the dreaded grid penalties for new Honda engine components meant he started the race from 16th, the first lap conflagration at turn 4 helped him immediately pick up three places, and by the time he made his pit stop he was up to ninth. Unfortunately he came in just before the virtual safety car which meant he got no help from back-to-back cautions and fell back again as a consequence. He subsequently enjoyed a good battle with his team mate Daniil Kvyat that must have had the nervous Toro Rosso pit wall watching through their fingers, but it proved to be a commendably clean fight. However in the process Gasly ran wide, allowing Kimi Raikkonen to sneak through as the Frenchman manoeuvred his way back onto the track. It left him in the no mans land of 14th at the finish.
