How Ferrari kept it cool in Malaysia

2 - A stop by the louvres

In order to offset any potential issue, the engineers at Maranello have placed vanes both on entry and exit of the coolers. These accelerate the airflow travelling through the radiators to leave no square inch of space unused and ensure optimum cooling.

How does the system work? Inside each sidepod, the cooler is sandwiched between a pair of openwork carbon-fibre panels.

As shown on the picture above, a series of louvres (see yellow outlines) features on the panel placed underneath the cooler. These elements help spread the airflow over the entire surface and redirect it properly through the cooler.

There’s a similar system on exit; the hot air is vented at the top of the cooler and then channelled towards the outside of the sidepods via another row of louvres. There is also a wide duct overarching the cooler and its openings.
