F1’s return to Europe: A flurry of upgrades

Red Bull –  2

The overall consensus among the teams is that shorter noses are the way to go amid the current technical regulations. The design helps better manage the airflow coming from the mandated 500mm neutral section. The front wing pillars have also been moved back, which has led to a bigger gap on both sides of the tip. This means more air can circulate under the nose and towards the splitter. One can also notice that the S-duct has been revamped as a consequence of the new design.

Milton Keynes’ design philosophy was initially based on having a short nose, so using a longer assembly was somehow compromising the RB 11’s overall aero efficiency. The updated version should make the entire package work better, though Red Bull’s main woes might rather lie around its power unit at the moment.
