- Nigel Mansell: 235 laps (1992 Brazilian Grand Prix / 1992 Monaco Grand Prix)
The Adrian Newey-designed and electronics-filled Williams FW14B was the ultimate weapon in 1992 and Formula One’s most famous moustachioed racer proved an irresistible force that year, even to team-mate Riccardo Patrese. In 16 races, Nigel Mansell secured nine wins and 14 pole positions. Yet, it was Patrese who kick-started his season in fine style by leading the opening 31 laps in Brazil. But the feisty Brummie took over to prevail in the next 40 laps and win. Mansell then simply annihilated the field in both Barcelona (65 laps) and Imola (60 laps). At Monaco, the then 38-year-old would have claimed his fourth win in a row and led from start to finish for the third time but for a late-race puncture scare that forced him to pit and rejoin behind Senna. The Brazilian would then make his McLaren as wide as the track to deny Mansell and secure the fifth of his sixth Monaco victories.
