STEADY ON BRAKE DEVELOPMENT
Since the start of the current campaign, the McLaren MCL32 has been fitted with a model of brake discs that is hollowed out on the edge. Brake provider Akebono, which has been supplying the Woking-based outfit exclusively since 2007, has taken inspiration from the Brembo model first mounted on the Silver Arrows last year.
Such a design, which makes each disk a few grams lighter, could help cooling as well. Although some tubes pierced in the disk are shorter, the overall heat exchange surface on the edge is bigger, which increases heat dissipation.
It is worth noticing that the Brembo disc features one more hole per diagonal line than on the Akebono model (six against five).
