Promoted to the rank of number one driver following Massa’s withdrawal, Stroll figured out that barring a miracle he wasn’t in for a points scoring Sunday. In an FW40 completely unsuitable for the tight Hungarian layout, he couldn’t climb out of the Q1 drop zone. On Sunday, he drove mostly on his own, far ahead of the Saubers, but never in a position to attack those up the road.
