Not only was he beaten in qualifying by his team mate, but also by Leclerc in the Sauber, to whom he paid tribute after Sunday's race. In the GP, Checo slotted in behind Ocon as both were stuck behind Magnussen. The pit wall asked Esteban, who couldn’t overhaul the visibly slower Dane, to let Sergio have a shot. He too failed to take the spot. Perez handed back the position to the Frenchman. It’s obviously nicer to see the team work in a concerted fashion rather than like it did in Singapore.
