F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Japanese GP

Kevin Magnussen (P17): 6/10
Kevin Magnussen showed little sign of pace during practice, and then in qualifying he became the second driver to fall victim to the gusty wind conditions that spun him into the tyre barrier at the final corner before he could even set a time. Repairs and a new gearbox meant that he lined up for the race at the back, from where he made a spectacular start and leapt up to 13th place on the opening lap. He subsequently peaked in 11th before things started to go into reverse although for once the Haas driver wasn't blaming the tyres for his inexorable decline. Instead, he admitted that they simply didn't have sufficient pace or the correct race strategy. Ending up back in 17th place by the finish, this was a rather deflating experience for the Dane, who must be counting down the days to the end of the season and a fresh start in 2020.
