Pierre Gasly (Sprint P7, GP P6, 10 pts): 7.5/10
A solid weekend for Pierre Gasly who finished in the top ten in every session at the Circuit of the Americas. He was aggressive in the first round of qualifying and saved a crucial set of tyres in the process. He finished Q3 in P7 just eight thousandths of a second behind Max Verstappen. Saturday went smoothly and he picked up two points after improving three places to seventh. Gasly was similarly discreet but effective on Sunday, neither he nor the team making any mistakes with their new celebrity investors on hand watching on. He made the best use of the Alpine after his team mate Esteban Ocon retired early with accident damage. Finishing behind George Russell's Mercedes painted an accurate picture of their current form.
George Russell (Sprint P8, GP P5, 11 pts): 7/10
It was clear from early on that of the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton had the edge at a circuit he knows well and has won here five times in the past. Russell did his best to hang on and was only two tenths behind the senior driver in qualifying. Unfortunately he was given a grid penalty for impeding Charles Leclerc in the Showdown and for going off track to pass Oscar Piastri in the Sprint race. He also played fast and loose with track limits in the Grand Prix, but not enough to rile the stewards further. He enjoyed himself on the mediums, less so on the hard tyres, but wasn't up to passing Carlos Sainz or Sergio Perez in the closing laps.
