F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2024 British GP

Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin (P8, 4 pts): 7.5/10
Last week in Austria was absolutely terrible for Aston Martin and one of Fernando Alonso's worst results since he joined the team at the start of 2023. But this was night and day, and both Alonso and his team mate Lance Stroll were looking much more on form at Silverstone. Throughout, Alonso had looked on track to qualify in the top ten and duly did so. That put him in the thick of congestion triggered by Nico Hulkenberg running wide at the first corner of the race, and in the melee he hit Alex Albon sending a piece of the Williams' front wing flying. It didn't seem to affect Alonso himself, although he suggested that the team had waited a lap too long to pit in the rain while acknowledging that such things were always a matter of luck. He seemed happy with the result and declared it to be Aston's "natural position" right now.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin (P7, 6 pts): 8/10
Another really good weekend for Lance Stroll who outperformed his illustrious team mate as Aston Martin returned to form after a recent notable slump in their fortunes. Stroll was second quickest in FP1 and generally outperformed Fernando Alonso, picking up eighth place on the grid after making the final round of qualifying. He got past Nico Hulkenberg at the start (sending the Haas off line which triggered Alonso's contact with Alex Albon). It took 19 laps for Hulkenberg to win the lost place back; after that the pair were joined at the hip for the rest of the race, but this time Stroll found no weaknesses in the Haas' armour before the finish line.
