F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2024 British GP

Oscar Piastri, McLaren (P4, 12 pts): 8.5/10
Max Verstappen aside, Silverstone was really all about Mercedes versus McLaren. The former had the all-British driver line-up, while McLaren is a team favourite for the British crowd prepared to overlook Oscar Piastri's unfortunate Australian origins and to cheer for him as heartily as they did for the home heroes. And he thoroughly deserved it this weekend. He was top three in both of Friday's practice sessions, although he dropped back in qualifying and was probably irked to miss out on the second row to Verstappen. He had a quiet start to the race but when the rain started it was like someone flicked a switch and he absolutely flew past the Red Bull, then Russell and Hamilton to take P2. A podium was the least he would have been expecting from here, but McLaren's decision not to double stack their cars when conditions worsened was a grievous error. It put him 18s behind the leaders, and without any safety cars there was just no way back in time.

Lando Norris, McLaren (P3, 15 pts): 8.5/10
The weekend just didn't pan out for Lando Norris for a number of reasons. McLaren as a whole made too many tiny stumbles that eventually added up. Some were on the team, some were on Lando. The Briton was quickest in both Friday sessions but couldn't find the same speed to take pole in qualifying. He lost out to Max Verstappen at the start of the race but the tables were turned when the light rain started and he cruised back past the Red Bull at Stowe and went on to take the lead. But being a lap late for his second stop, plus a problem in execution and the wrong choice of tyres, left him at a disadvantage for the final stage. He couldn't catch Hamilton for the lead and Verstappen had his revenge at Stowe. Lando looked broken at the lost opportunity, but that's just Lando being Lando. He'll be absolutely fine today, seeing at all the things he nailed.
