RED BULL’S GRADUAL OVERHAUL CONTINUES

Red Bull held high hopes of shining on home soil but the Milton Keynes-based outfit suffered a spate of reliability issues, this time plaguing Daniel Ricciardo’s progress (gearbox and engine).

Still, design genius Adrian Newey has continued to update the RB13 at Silverstone. Red Bull had already tweaked their charger’s bargeboards, monkey seat, and rear wing in Barcelona; introduced a T-wing in Monaco; redesigned the front wing endplate in Canada, and modified the brake ducts in Austria.

For the British GP weekend, Red Bull updated the arched section on the outer board of the RB13’s front wing, with the number of arches increasing twofold, from two to four, so these have a higher angle of incidence while keeping the airflow attached to their surface (compare white arrows).

One will remember that these arches create a sort of reversed funnel used to generate a vortex that fends off the dirty wake of the wheels. It is also worth noting that Red Bull reverted to pre-Montreal front wing endplates at the Home of British Motor Racing.
