Under the skin of the McLaren-Honda MP4-31

TRADITION AND MODERNITY

At the front of the chassis, the rockers have been vertically pivoted, which means the mounting points of the pushrods could be raised in a bid to optimise suspension geometry since the lower and upper wishbones are closer on the MP4-31.

The two brake fluid reservoirs are only partially visible; they slot within the carbon monocoque (instead of being attached to the front bulkhead as is the case on other cars). When the carbon S-duct is removed, one can see the torsion bars, as well as the anti-roll bar, which seems to be split into two parts.

Unlike the Mercedes and Red Bull setups, the McLaren steering rack and hydraulic assist steering remain mounted high up in a conventional installation. The tie rods are placed ahead of the upper wishbones, while these are ahead of the lower wishbones on the W07 and RB12.
