A TWO-FOLD INCREASE IN ENERGY RECOVERY
According to Hasegawa, Honda’s energy recovery has increased two fold compared to 2015, and is now on par with the other power units.
In concrete terms, the MGU-H is now capable of charging the battery while also assisting the MGU-K. The MP4-31 continues to lack straightline speed but the progress is evident (+ 7kph on average), albeit insufficient.
As one can see on the image above, the battery (or energy store) is mounted below the tank, in a dedicated casing one can guess based on the bottom picture. There are also several orange-coloured electric cables that connect the MGU-K and -H to the control electronics.
The latter converts three-phase alternating current from the two motor-generator units into direct current that can be stored in the battery
