Nico drove his finest Grand Prix to date in 2017. In the hunt during qualifying, he posted a sixth best time that offered promise for Sunday, and started fifth thanks to Bottas' grid penalty. He quickly re-passed Ocon to run on his own, splitting the Red Bulls until an exhaust issue forced him to ease off, which cost him a top five result in the waning laps.
