Pierre Gasly (P9, 2 pts): 8/10
Having recovered from an earlier nasty bout of illness, Pieree Gasly was consistently in the top ten throughout qualifying and made it into the final round to start the race itself from tenth on the grid. However it meant that he was obliged to use the soft compound tyres for the opening stint, and almost immediately he was in trouble and losing ground to those around him on mediums. An early stop for a used set of the hard compound sent him plummeting to the back, after which he kept battling away for the rest of the afternoon. Even a late change to end the race on mediums seemed to leave him running short of getting into the points. However Daniel Kvyat's ten-second penalty for spinning Nico Hulkenberg ended up promoting Gasly into ninth place with two freshly minted championship points - a well-deserved success for the French driver, who is continuing to recover his confidence after a bruising time at the senior Red Bull squad.
