19. Roberto Merhi - 6.82/10
Very much a mixed bag from Merhi, who really struggled to match team-mate Will Stevens early on. His performances and results improved as the season progressed, which is testament to his work ethic as he focused on getting on top of struggles with the Pirelli tyres. And it says something that Manor stuck with him for so long despite a lack of significant funding behind him.
However, Merhi’s early-season struggles were put in to context with Alexander Rossi’s arrival as the American got the upper hand on Stevens, and he showed the inconsistency of a rookie in his final two appearances of the year as he performed excellently in Russia but was then dreadfully slow in Abu Dhabi. Admitted the final race “was horrible” as he pointed to handling issues, but he was comfortably beaten on a few too many occasions across the year.
