F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Styrian GP

Daniel Ricciardo (P8, 4 pts): 7.5/10
Daniel Ricciardo certainly made an impact on the weekend when he flew off the track early in FP2 and clouted the barriers, mangling the R.S.20 and leaving himself with a pronounced limp after hitting his knee on the steering column. Fortunately both car and drivers were fully mended in time for the delayed wet qualifying, and Ricciardo successfully made it all the way through to the final round of qualifying - even if he wasn't ultimately a match for his team mate. He drove a solid race, kept out of trouble and picked up positions where he could, peaking briefly in fourth before his pit stop dropped him back. He had no answer to Sergio Perez' superior speed when the Racing Point came calling on lap 47, and was then forcibly moved aside by the Mexican's team mate on the penultimate lap with Lando Norris also using the opportunity to pounce. Small wonder then that Renault took umbrage against Racing Point and took the matter of the legality of the RP20's radical design to the stewards ...

Lance Stroll (P7, 6 pts): 7.5/10
An impressive fifth fastest in first practice and one place higher in the afternoon, Lance Stroll was looking forward to qualifying on Saturday. However the rain was not to the Canadian's liking and he was disappointed to finish 13th fastest in the session, even though it was only a tenth away from making Q3. He subsequently got a one place boost thanks to Charles Leclerc's grid penalty. He made a good start in the race, making up positions and soon running in the top ten where he remained for the rest of the afternoon, with the exception of a couple of laps during the round of pit stops. In the latter stages of the race he found himself firmly stuck behind Daniel Ricciardo, and it was only with a banzai lunge on the penultimate lap that he finally broke the impasse. Unfortunately Stoll's success was short lived as Lando Norris used the opportunity to pass both drivers, leaving Stroll crossing the finish line once again back in seventh, just a hairsbreadth behind his team mate.
