Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari (P10): 6/10
Hamilton endured a frustrating day at the mobile office, as we heard through his communications with his race engineer multiple times during the Grand Prix. The seven-time World Champion was stuck behind the Williams of Albon for much of the race; in an effort to get past he rolled the dice and stayed out on Dry tyres on a slippery track. This proved to be the wrong decision, as he was eventually forced into the pits and ceded even more positions.
Oscar Piastri, McLaren (P9): 8/10
The fastest person on the circuit in Albert Park was hometown hero Piastri, no doubt about it. After getting past Verstappen early on, he managed to catch and keep up with teammate Norris in the lead and even got within DRS range. A brief call to hold position was followed by a trip through the gravel, which may have rattled the young Aussie. We will never know if Piastri had the goods to claim victory however, as he spun his MCL39 at the penultimate corner on lap 44 and was stuck in the grass for over a minute. He did well to claw his way back into the points, but couldn’t help but be disappointed with the numerical outcome of his home Grand Prix.
