Haryanto was viewed as the one out-and-out pay driver on the grid at the start of 2016 and it is a hard tag to shake off. However, the Indonesian was solid throughout the first half of the year and showed up well against his highly-rated team-mate Pascal Wehrlein on a number of occasions. Qualifying was where he showed good raw pace, but he let himself down in races where he often dropped to the back early on and drifted away from contention.
