Higher-definition sensors can also be installed during free practice, generally around the airbox and in lieu of TV cameras. These record huge amounts of data that can be downloaded when the car returns to the pits – Mercedes can even collect the info over wifi as soon as the Silver Arrows enter the pit lane.
Along with the reigning world champions, other teams, such as Red Bull and Force India, add HD sensors in the mirrors on top of the standard devices mentioned earlier (see yellow arrows above). That way, the W08 has two sensors and one camera aimed at the driver in the rear view mirror.
