TORO ROSSO JOINS THE T-WING TRAIN
F1’s return to Europe saw Toro Rosso add a single-plane T-wing on the STR12. The element is curved in the middle section and connects to the shark fin with a specific support. Red Bull, Force India, and Renault are the only teams yet to run a T-wing. One will also notice that the front end of the latest Toro Rosso charger has gained two winglets
SEGMENTED APPROACH
Like parent team Red Bull, Toro Rosso has become a follower of the aero philosophy of segmentation, as it has divided the STR12’s bargeboard into several parts. Now a three-element installation, the new design connects to a U-shaped vane placed under the front end.
FAENZA SPREADS ITS WINGS
Toro Rosso has also re-designed the STR12’s front wing. A cut has been made in the main board (see yellow arrows), while the lower flap now connects to the neutral section in a different manner (see white arrows).
Finally, the inner ends of the upper flaps are no longer dented a la 2016-spec McLaren (see blue arrows).
