It is not often Hülkenberg loses out to his team mate in qualifying on merit. All he could do in the race was stay out as long as possible on his first set of tyres to pick up positions. He finally came in for fresh rubber on lap 50. He was faster than Sainz, who let him by. He then had to hold off Verstappen to return to the top ten after a two race absence.
