7. Ocon will always remember his first time
A maiden Grand Prix win will always remain deeply entrenched in a driver's heart and memory, regardless of the circumstances in which it was achieved.
Esteban Ocon's triumph in the Hungarian Grand Prix was the result of a double-dose of good fortune followed by a flawless drive by the Alpine charger in teh eventful race.
Ocon was able to steer clear of the mayhem triggered by Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas at the start. That was the Frenchman's first strike of luck.
His second godsend was the collateral damage that eliminated on the spot - in addition to Bottas himself - several of his direct midfield rivals involved in the pile-up.
From P8 on the grid, Ocon found himself leading the pack when the commotion subsided. Pundits noted the lucky break but reckoned the Alpine driver would struggle to hold his own at the head of the pack, let alone succeed in doing it for a whopping 67 laps.
Ocon's race management was exemplary, helped in the second part of the race by a staunch defense by his teammate Fernando Alonso who kept Hamilton at bay just long to ensure the Mercedes driver didn’t have enough laps left to threaten Ocon in the final minutes of the race.
He was however in Sebastian Vettel's line of sight for the duration of the event. But Ocon never put a foot wrong and dealt with the Aston Martin driver's pressure with poise and skill to wrap up a master class performance, and a memorable first Grand Prix win.
