Alexander Albon (P12): 7.5/10
There wasn't to be a championship point at the end of this weekend's race as there had been in Spa, but it was still a good weekend for Alex Albon - especially compared to his team mate who was dead last in every single session. Albon showed there is life and performance to be found in the FW44 in the right hands, with P10 in first practice proving to be his best outing, and he regularly bossed the final sector. He duly went on to make the cut at the end of the first round of qualifying - frankly, we're surprised when he doesn't these days - and benefitted from a long first stint having started on mediums which saw him shoot up to sixth place before his own stop on lap 19. Unfortunately he came back out in P16 stuck behind Valtteri Bottas in the dreaded DRS train. The second round of pit stops put him up to P12 on lap 38, and while he was passed by Pierre Gasly he did fend off Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel for the rest of the race.
Pierre Gasly (P11): 7/10
The AlphaTauri is really struggling to sustain its form this season, and Pierre Gasly has been particularly badly affected. He was P14 in first practice, P16 in the second and P15 on Saturday just ahead of his team mate Yuki Tsunoda. After that, a mere 0.084s divided the pair in the second round of qualifying, but on this occasion Tsunoda was ahead - and moreover they straddled the cut line, meaning Gasly failed to make it through to Q3 while Tsunoda progressed. After that, Gasly needed a stroke of luck to have a good race on Sunday and it never really happened for him. He lost out to Esteban Ocon at the start and then to Fernando Alonso in the second Alpine before the first round of pit stops. Tsunoda's retirement helped him up to P11 on lap 43 but he was stuck behind Lance Stroll for the rest of the afternoon meaning he narrowly missed out on a championship point despite all that dogged hard work.
