Fernando Alonso - 7th place, 6 points - 9/10
When a chaotic race unfolds, often the best drivers are able to take advantage. That was certainly the case for Alonso in the opening laps at Spa, with the Spaniard jumping from 22nd on the grid to 12th at the end of the first lap. While he profited from the safety car period and red flag as Hamilton did, Alonso was doing so in a much less competitive car and having missed plenty of running due to reliability issues this weekend. Alonso’s pace and tyre management was excellent, and even though Valtteri Bottas was told the McLaren would be “a sitting duck” in the final laps, the double world champion used all of his experience to ensure that was not the case.
