The soon to be Racing Point Force India driver, run by his dad, only managed to beat Vandoorne in qualifying. He started from row eight behind his team mate on a grid amended by others' penalties.
The chaos at the start moved him up to P11 at the end of the opening lap. Lance finished behind Sirotkin and Sainz, but ahead of Hartley. Regardless of his performance, his future in the sport is secure for a long time to come.
