Nico Hulkenberg, Kick Sauber (P14) 4/10
For once the Kick Sauber didn’t look like the slowest team on the grid around the Miami International Autodrome, but the likelihood of points was still very slim for Hulkenberg. The German briefly found himself in the points after extending his opening hard tyre stint, but he clearly didn’t belong there. He ended the Grand Prix strongly on a fresh set of medium tyres and was closing in on Gasly for 13th, but it was too little too late in the end.

Pierre Gasly, Alpine (P13) 4/10
Gasly didn’t shy away from openly blaming his team during qualifying either, as he pointed to poor timing and bad traffic for his Q1 exit. It was always going to be a tall order to score points in the main race after starting in the pitlane, and with an Alpine car fundamentally lacking pace he could only climb up to 13th by the chequered flag. At least he scored a point in the sprint though.
