MANOR KEEPS UP THE DEVELOPMENT PACE
Manor continues to add updates to the MRT05, something the F1 minnows could only dream about under its previous names. The British outfit actually introduced many novelties in Spain, which were kept for Monaco where one could get a closer look at them.
Besides tweaking its turning vanes, bargeboards, and monkey seat winglet, Manor also modified the rear wing central pillar.
The reversed Y-shaped layout was ditched for a design that has a single, straight pillar attached to the gearbox casing. Toro Rosso first came up with the solution in 2015, with several teams (Ferrari, Haas, McLaren, Sauber) following suit this year. The updated installation allows for a tighter engine cover around the tailpipe.
However, the single pillar must be heat resistant, as it has to cope with the gasses released by the exhaust. On the other hand, a reversed Y-shaped layout, still visible on the Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams, does not have to deal with this kind of constraint.
