F1i Driver Ratings for the 2025 Spanish GP

George Russell, Mercedes (P4): 7/10

A bit of damage limitation for Russell, as Mercedes seemingly lacked the pace of their nearest rivals Ferrari this time round in Spain. Despite qualifying ahead of the scarlet red cars, he fell behind both Hamilton and Leclerc on the opening lap. Russell stuck to the rear of Hamilton and managed to get past him after the second pitstops. It was looking like the rest of the race would be quiet for the Briton, but a late Safety Car threw a spanner in the works. It was a good spanner for Russell though, as it gave him an opportunity to get past a stricken Verstappen on slow hard tyres. The pair made contact a few times, with a second collision a deliberate one by Verstappen which earned the Dutchman a ten-second penalty. Luckily no damage for Russell, who did well to claim fourth considering the lack of pace shown by Mercedes throughout the weekend.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari (P3): 8/10

Leclerc, much like in Monaco last weekend, managed to get the best possible result for himself and Ferrari given the circumstances of the race. It was a poor qualifying performance by the Monegasque though, who lined up in seventh on the starting grid. He made up for this with an incredible launch off the line, passing Antonelli in the run down to the first corner and darting up the inside of Russell at Turn 5 on the same lap. Leclerc subsequently closed in on the back of Hamilton, and the Ferrari pair swapped positions on lap ten of 66. He remained in fourth for the vast majority of the race and would likely have crossed the line in the same position were it not for the late Safety Car. The Ferrari driver capitalised on a mistake at the final corner by Verstappen to snatch third at the restart, an unlikely podium for Leclerc.
