Carlos Sainz - 8th place, 4 points - 8/10
Another strong performance from the consistently impressive Sainz, with qualifying a particularly strong part of the weekend. Secured sixth on the grid when conditions would have made a mistake easy for Toro Rosso, outqualifying some marginally faster cars in the two McLarens. Crucially lost out to Alonso at the start - blaming the dirty side of the grid - and couldn’t go as long as he hoped on the supersoft tyres in the opening stint but still had the pace to keep up with the McLaren in the race. Described the result as “99.9%” of the maximum possible.
