A solid drive from Bottas, who didn’t have the car to achieve much more. Reached Q3 on Saturday but started from tenth, gaining a place from Nico Hulkenberg at the start. In the fight against Force India that was an important moment, but Williams was lacking overall pace and he could make no further progress once on the soft tyre. Was unable to keep enough life in the tyre to attack at the end of stints, but admits he was never really close enough to threaten the cars ahead.
