F1i's Ultimate Driver Ratings for 2019

P19: Antonio Giovinazzi, Alfa Romeo: 6.29/10 (132 in total)
Surprised to see Antonio Giovinazzi this early in our rundown of 2019's driver performances? So were we, until we remembered that he had rather a slow start to what was in effect his rookie F1 season (his two starts subbing for Pascal Wehrlein in 2017 notwithstanding). He also initially suffered from the inevitable comparison with his more experienced team mate Kimi Raikkonen, who was predictably able to hit the ground running. As such it look some time for him to find his feet, and the first half of the season saw him largely scoring in the 5.0-6.5 range. He finally clinched his first championship point in Austria for which we gave him the first of three 7.5s, and there was even an 8.0 for his performance at Singapore. The overall picture therefore was of steady growth and improvement and he was soon right up there alongside and even ahead of Raikkonen. If he has a strong start to his 2020 season, we expect Giovinazzi to be several places higher in next year's rankings.
