Outqualified Verstappen and was running fifth in the opening laps when the safety car was deployed. However, Nico Hulkenberg’s slow pace on pit entry saw Vettel overtake both drivers and Sainz was then held up in the pits, dropping him behind Bottas and Jenson Button. Still fought hard with the likes of Hamilton, the Ferraris and Ricciardo but once again finished as the second Toro Rosso on the road.
