Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin (Retired, lap 35) 2/10
Aston Martin took a step back in Mexico City - again, as Alonso qualified in 14th position and never looked to threaten the top ten positions during the Grand Prix. On lap 21 the Spaniard endured a horrendous 7.1-second pitstop for fresh rubber, and a handful of laps later he retired. That’s the third consecutive retirement in Mexico for Alonso, an unfortunate statistic.

Carlos Sainz, Williams (P17) 5/10
Sainz was on for a cracking comeback, but a lap 1 clash with a Racing Bulls broke a rim on his Williams and a pitlane speed limiter sensor in the process, earning him a five-second penalty and a drive-through - twice. He nevertheless managed to hustle himself back into the points before fading back into the lower midfield after his pitstop. His lousy day ended against a barrier on the exit of the Foro Sol stadium with just a handful of laps to go.
