F1i's Top Shots of 2018 from XPB's Laurent Charniaux

Abu Dhabi - Farewell to Fernando

Only time will tell if Formula 1 has seen the last of Fernando Alonso, but for now it's 'Adios amigo!' With the exception of perhaps a few of his mid-field rivals, pretty much everyone is sad to see the great Spaniard go, including Laurent Charniaux.

"There's nothing really outstanding about this shot except that it's a nice clean portrait of Fernando with a waving hand symbolizing his departure. But I wanted to include it as a tribute to an extraordinary driver.

"As an F1 photographer you obviously have the best seat in the house. And over the years there have been many instances when I've just been wowed by Alonso's skills, his genius and his unwavering competitive spirit.

"It's been a privilege to photograph him, and a real joy to watch him work his magic out on the race track, regardless of the venue, the circumstances or the car he was driving. I for one will really miss him."
