Carlos Sainz (Retired, Lap 53): 6/10
Carlos Sainz had been looking strong all weekend, clearly boosted by a marked improvement in form for McLaren as a whole. Making it through to Q3 in qualifying and lining up in seventh place on the grid was a terrific result for the Spaniard in his second outing for the team. It gave him a shot at picking off Max Verstappen in the opening laps, but the misguided attempt when it came cost him his front wing and sent him limping back to pit lane for a replacement. It left him far behind the rest of the field, running at the very back, and there was no way back without help from a safety car. Ironically one did come, but by then it was far too late to help Sainz.
