F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 French GP

Sergio Perez (P12): 7/10
It was a bit of a roller coaster ride for Sergio Perez this weekend. While he was consistently faster than his Racing Point team mate Lance Stroll in practice, the direction of travel - from a healthy 11th in FP1 to a sickly 16th in FP2 and FP3 - was not encouraging. However he dug deep with a brilliant Q1 lap to put him through to the second round of qualifying on Saturday. He ultimately secured himself a 14th place grid spot for the race, from where he made solid progress when the lights went out. And then came that call from the race stewards, when he was given a five second penalty for cutting the chicane at the start. That was despite complying with the rules about how to rejoin the track, since he was deemed to have gained an advantage anyway. It all seemed very unfair, making it look like the stewards were determined to get their man through the use of one set of regulations or another. It left a fuming Perez fired up and determined to make up for lost time in the remainder of the race, which saw him successfully claw back four places by the chequered flag.
