While Raikkonen’s finishing position is his best since the same race last year, there remains the underlying feeling of what could have been had Sebastian Vettel started the race. Raikkonen’s poor start essentially cost him any realistic chance of victory, with the Finn having to fight his way back through the field. Some clinical overtaking moves followed as Raikkonen finally emerged in P2, but by the time he had done so he was already 13 seconds behind race leader Rosberg.
