Stoffel Vandoorne (P15) 6.5/10
McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne just can't catch a break. Another troubled Friday testing new parts for 2019 - which he will get no benefit from himself once he leaves Woking at the end of season - was compounded by more mechanical glitches, leaving him up against it in qualifying where he was slowest of anyone in Q1. To his credit, the Belgian kept plugging away during the race and was rewarded by a five-place improvement by the finish, having successfully kept out of the way of faster cars unlike his senior team mate Fernando Alonso. It might not have been a particularly eye-catching day at the races for Vandoorne, but it was nonetheless a solid one before he packs his bags for the US.
