A 21-picture salute to Formula 1 ahead of 'Race 1000'

18. Belgian Grand Prix - 2000

The 2000 Belgian Grand Prix featured one of the most jaw-dropping overtaking moves ever seen in F1.

It happened on lap 41 as Mika Hakkinen was hunting down Michael Schumacher. Hakkinen had started on pole for McLaren, but lost the lead to Schumacher on lap 13 when he spun onto the grass at Stavelot.

Schumacher was holding off Hakkinen when they came up behind backmarker Ricardo Zonta. The BAR left the racing line to Schumacher, but Hakkinen risked the narrow inside line to make it three-wide down the Kemmel Straight.

Somehow the three braked in time for Les Combes without colliding, handing Hakkinen the lead. But while Schumacher went on to win that year's title, it was that three-wide moment that remains seared into the memory.
