F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Belgian GP

Lewis Hamilton (P2, 18 pts): 8.5/10
Lewis Hamilton called it "a wobbly weekend", and that pretty much nails it on the head. He lost a lot of time in FP1 with a sensor issue and then made an error in FP3 that put him in the wall on Saturday morning. He was very, very lucky that the exemplary Mercedes mechanics were able to get the W10 back in working order for qualifying, and in the circumstances starting from third place on the grid was already a terrific achievement. He ambushed Sebastian Vettel for second at the start but couldn't hold on to it, but had another chance at the same spot later in the race despite an unusually sluggish pit stop. However by the time he finally got past, Vettel had succeeded in holding him up long enough to prevent him from catching and challenging Charles Leclerc in time for the win. Far from looking disappointed, Hamilton recognised Sunday for what it was: a major save on a day things could have gone very badly wrong for his title bid.
